04/05/2024 Breakfast. My wife and I shared our breakfast today. We had the small order (4) of Beignets, I had a breakfast sandwich, and we shared an order of the Pain Perdu & Chicken. Before talking about the food, I would like to say that I really enjoy restaurants that display artwork for the customers to enjoy (and buy). I've never purchased any, I'm just saying that many times, the artwork enhances the meal. I enjoyed viewing the artwork here at the Pujo St. Cafe. The beignets this morning were beautifully made. But when I think of beignets, I think of ones that are light, somewhat crispy, and delicate, almost like the soft, inviting nature of a well-made croissant. These were a bit spongier and more dense and were more like an enjoyable dinner roll. It wasn't what I was expecting. The breakfast sandwich was enjoyable (just ok). Not much else to say. The magic in this meal today was in the Pain Perdue Chicken. The breading was delicious and crunchy. The chicken was thin, moist, and the dish left me wanting more! The french toast was so well made - it reminded me of what I had when my mother made it for breakfast as a kid. There is something to be said for french toast that is made by actually soaking the bread in the egg batter. Many times, one is served it where the egg has been "applied" to the bread and not given a chance to soak in. Here the two slices were moist, flavorful, and excellently made. They use the word "dredged" in the menu, and that captures the point I was trying to make. One final note. See what looks like a chocolate syrup in the pictures of the french toast? It's actually a blueberry and ghost pepper reduction that was the highlight of an already outstanding entree. I wanted to buy some to take home and forgot to ask about it before we left. The blueberry flavor paired with a hint of ghost pepper made for a delicious (not hot) taste that offered a shadow of the ghost pepper flavor but without the eye watering heat. This entree was uniquely satisfying and the first time I've ever had that blueberry ghost pepper reduction. Amazing! Our server, Sheila, was wonderful. She was a delight for us to talk with, and we felt more like we were in her home than at a restaurant. Excellent: Uniquely satisfying. A special place. Very Good: Better than expected. Average: An everyday experience. Just OK. Fair: Below par. Dirty smells. & / or flies.

Great menu selection if your looking for Cajun or American they have some great choices. Service was great. We will definitely be back

I was recommended this spot for a Saturday brunch. l was glad I followed up on the recommendation as it was excellent. The food was hot, fresh and tasty. My Contraband Benedict was full of flavours and a great portion size. My wife had the Breakfast Bowl and she said it hit the spot. Morgan our server was pleasant and very helpful. There was also plenty of interesting art work on the walls for sale. A good place to dine in downtown Lake Charles.

We went for our Anniversary and were incredibly impressed. Everything we ordered was delicious. The service was great and the location was very nice. If I had to say something negative I'd just say that it was a cold day out and it was just as cold inside.

Everything we ordered was delicious!! We got tuna, Reuben, and pasta! I’d recommend the tuna out of the 3! Perfectly cooked, crisp outer layer and cool center. Great job to the chef . Intimate yet chill vibe , also have patio dining. I’m not sure if we came at the rt time or what, but the food came out verrry fast ! 7 min max, fresh and hot. Yum would definitely return

Came in for our first time dining here and was immediately greeted and seated. Our waiter Cameron was great he provided amazing service from suggesting great dishes to checking in with us frequently. The chef also came out to speak to us and ask how we enjoyed our meal. From start to finish this is a great restaurant will be back.

We came to try the Beignets for the first time in Lake Charles. Our server was very friendly and able to provide context and make recommendations. The beignets had a hint of nutmeg which isn’t traditional but gave it an extra oomph. The coffee wasn’t anything special but wasn’t bad, exactly what you’d hope for. The banana peanut butter smoothie was also good, but paired with everything we had might have been a lot of sugar. It’s a bit more on the mild side of sweet but worth trying. The atmosphere is nice but the overall downtown is a little dead compared to other cities. Overall, if you’re in the area it’s worth stopping by!

Today was my first time here and it was a lovely experience! Our server was friendly and attentive and I appreciated his honestly when he admitted that he wasn't very good at making cappuccinos when I ordered one because it honestly would have been disappointing to get a bad cappuccino moreso than not getting one at all. I got the fish tacos which were delicious and my fiance got a burger, which he let me try and it was very, very good. Their fries were also great! We got bread pudding for dessert, which was pretty good. The atmosphere was good and there was a little front area that you could sit in where you could enjoy fresh air and sunshine. I look forward to returning because everything on the menu looked really tasty!
